Information on Photos

You can go to the order page any time and input the details you want about your painting and receive a total order price. This can all be done before any payment is made. Or you can use the order page to upload your photo for a quote from us.

We prefer to receive the photos you want painted in digital form. You can send them to us easily via the order page. Just follow the simple instructions and upload the photo you want from your computer.

Make sure the photo you send us is quite high resolution, ideally higher than 100kb. The larger the photo on your screen the better. Don't worry if you are unsure about this technical stuff. Once we have your photo, we will always inform you if it is not suitable to produce a great painting.

If you have 'old fashioned' hardcopy photographs, you can have these put on CD, by your local photo processing shop or internet cafe. You can then e-mail us the digital image on the CD, or post the CD to us.

Selecting your Photo

The better your photo the better your painting will be.

When selecting your photo, try to make sure the photo fits as many of the following criteria as possible:

Make sure you like the photo! Try to pick something which 'flatters' the subject.
The picture is in sharp focus, not blurry.
Eye colour must clearly be visible.
Hair colour and style should be clearly visible.
Close up shots work better than where the subject matter is further away.
Try to make sure there is enough lighting in the photo and it's not dull.
Photos where the subject matter is at a slight angle are better, rather than being 'face on'. This allows the painter to capture more depth of character.

However again don't obsess over picking the perfect photo-the main thing is that you should like whatever you send in to us. We will then perform our magic. Most photos sent to us will not meet all the above criteria. If you are having any difficulties with getting your photos to us, please contact us.

On the order page you will have the opportunity to state any requests you want in the comments box. So for example, if the hair colour or style is not clear, you can then describe it to us in words. Try to be as specific as possible. Also we can turn black and white photos into colour portraits. Or we could remove subjects from the photos. You can also do things like merging 2 photos together, to bring 2 people together in the portrait. When uploading your photos, you will be given the option of uploading more than 1. Just state what you would like to do in the comments box. We do not make any extra charge for any of these services.
